IRIS Group has completed an analysis of succesful sector mobility, i.e. the mobility of reseachers between universities and the private business community. The analysis documents that sector mobility is a contributing factor in strenghening the knowledge exchange between research communities and private companies. This leads to a number of positive effects for both research communities, the universities’ focus on the business environment and corporate innovation processes.

The analysis also shows that successful sector mobility often rests on a number of key drivers, such as a strong business-oriented culture in research environments, special environments for business research collaboration and long-term trust-based relationships with industrial companies. The results are based on three Danish and four foreign case studies, including by ETH Zurich and EPFL in Switzerland and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany.

The analysis has been prepared for the Danish Research and Innovation Policy Council.
